Des Moines Scottish Rite One Day Reunion

The brethren of the Des Moines Consistory assembled on Saturday to welcome 10 new Masters of the a Royal Secret into the ranks of the Scottish Rite.

The 4th, 14th, 18th, 19th, 30th, 31st and 32nd degrees were performed in full form by very skilled sound, lighting, stage, prop, technical and ritualistic crews to result in a very successful performance of the degrees.

Notably, the 19th degree, Grand Pontiff,  was performed for the very first time in the Des Moines Valley. This completes a ten year quest by the valley to become one of the very few in the United States that now performs ALL 29 degrees of the Southern Jurisdiction in their entirety. A very impressive feat indeed!

Lunch was served by Dick Hudnall 33° and the Kitchen Crew. It was a fantastic meal consisting of beautiful cuts of pork complimented by cole slaw, baked beans, dinner roll and an ice cream desert! Many comments were made complimenting the stellar meal.

The reunion finished off with a social hour consisting of libations, snacks and fellowship. A very successful reunion for the Des Moines Consistory. The future is bright!

Bulletproof Freemasonry

With all of the negative videos circulating regarding Freemasonry, Brother Curry's insightful speech speaks volumes of the Craft and calls it's votaries to carry on the work of building that spiritual temple within themselves.

297th Anniversary of the founding of the Grand Lodge of England

The brethren of the Des Moines Scottish Rite Consistory held celebrations at the Royal Mile Pub in downtown Des Moines on Wednesday and Thursday nights (June 11th and 12th) to commemorate the founding of the Grand Lodge of England's 297th anniversary. I was fortunate to make the Thursday evening event. The event was held in the upper floor of the pub in an intimate setting of 45 Scottish Rite and Master Masons in attendance.

The meals served consisted of old time English cuisine. Fish and Chips, Bangers and Mash, Guiness Pie and Shepherd's Pie were available choices for the brethren to enjoy.  After the hearty meal, a program was presented on the history of the founding of the Grand Lodge and information involving the Ancient and Modern lodges that were formed thereafter.

Many toasts were given, songs were sung and bonds were strengthened amongst the brethren. This table lodge is a popular event for the Des Moines Consistory and is always a great time. The food was good, the beers were great and the fellowship was phenomenal!

The Des Moines Scottish Rite, in my opinion, is one of the most progressive Masonic bodies in Iowa. The entire organization is a model for other Masonic bodies to follow. The degree work is fantastic and the fellowship cannot be beat.

Vivat!! Vivat!! Vivat!!

Harding Lodge #649 90th Birthday

Tonight was an interesting evening at lodge! Today marks the 90th birthday of Harding Lodge #649!

This evening the brethren Harding Lodge assembled to celebrate it's 90th birthday of receiving it's charter from the Grand Lodge of Iowa. We had a nice dinner, followed by opening for a stated meeting. A presentation was given on the history of our lodge in Mason City and of the peculiar way we received our name!

When the petition for Harding was originally filed, the petition suggested the name be "Truth Lodge."     This was not how things panned out. President Warren G. Harding had passed to the celestial lodge above while our lodge's petition was awaiting approval.  Grand Master of Masons in Iowa Milo J. Gabriel felt it better suited to honor the President, and named us Harding.

Also present were Sir Knight Robert Smith, Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Iowa, and Sir Knight Keith Myhre, Grand 1st guard. Both are very active in Iowa Masonry, and an asset to our local lodges.

It was a wonderful evening of fellowship and learning.  The birthday of Harding drew many of our older brethren out who aren't as active anymore, and some brand new Masons who were excited to share in the lodge experience that commenced.  The general feel is that activity is up, brothers are honing their ritual and are actively preparing for the following year!

Coming soon... Des Moines Consistory table lodge!

Testing... Testing... Is this thing on? *tap* *tap*

First blog post ever. I promised myself someday I would start documenting my masonic travels. Since so much has transpired so quickly in my young masonic career I had better start documenting some of it for my own memories, and possibly of interest to others who share a love of Masonry in general.

More to come...
